Journal One

Before I started this initiative, a needs assessment had to be done. I created an online survey that was

completed by my friends and family. As I thought I knew the answers everyone was going to do, I was

wrong. A question I had asked was whether education should be free around the world and I got a mix of

answers. 88.2% said yes and 11.8% said no. I was quite surprised to see that statistic, as I assumed

everyone would said yes. I was also surprised to see that 2/17 people do not agree with UNICEF or other

organizations initiatives. Doing this needs assessment made me more aware that although many people will

have the same opinion, there will still be some that are completely opposite. Although there were some mixed

answers, many of the answers were the same. For ex. all 17 people that did this survey said that everyone should have access to education. This needs assessment has helped me change my organization as I have to explain more about the issue. On my survey, it shows that many people have not quite heard or seen this issue enough times. This is very important to know as I am able to post more information and inform everybody more about this issue. My peers have also given me some feedback which has been a great help as they are currently doing a similar project. Many of my peers mentioned that it will be difficult to find an organization to partner up with with the time we have as the course is coming to an end. They mentioned how I would need lots of followers in order for a partnership to work and I never thought about that until they pointed that out. That was a great big help as I had to change my plans up. My solution is to donate money based on the amount of likes I receive on a post. I would donate to an organization that is 100% reliable such as UNICEF.

To start this initiative, I have created three social media pages to promote this worldwide issue. I created a Facebook account, Instagram account, and Twitter account. I have also created a poster as this was the first post I posted. This poster was a great way to advertise this issue as it provided statistics regarding this issue. This is a first hard step as I do not have many followers. On Facebook, I currently have 8 likes on my page, 8 followers on Instagram, and 0 on Twitter. In order for me to gain a bigger audience, I need to find a way to draw more attention to my pages quickly. I have been using hashtags to gain more attention and will soon be coming up with my own hashtag. I will continue to create posters as this is a more appealing approach.

Although I do not have a big audience, I believe that the audience I have now are concerned and knowledgeable. From the survey itself, I was able to gather enough information about my audience. Many of them have heard about children not being able to attend school, but there are still a small group of them that have not heard much. This is why I think my audience is in the middle of concerned and knowledgeable. From the poster I have posted, I hope it pushes them more towards knowledgeable as it provided much information about education. To push my audience towards the motivated to change stage, I need to provide them with more information and how they can get involved and help.

Thank you to all my followers that have supported me through this initiative! Come back for Journal Two next week!
